Dearest SHS students!

Thank you for your support in this year’s sports day.
It was yet another exciting event!
For the first time this year,
we joined forces with the Sports and Wellness team for this captain’s ball tournament.

The wet weather did not dampened the teams spirit to compete.
The match was delayed for almost an hour before it continued.

Team OTT rained as the champion for this event! CONGRATS!

Special thanks to Sports and Wellness and not forget the students who participated!

School of Health Sciences Freshmen Orientation was held on the 20thApril 2009.
This year, we welcomed our freshmen with a theme entitled
“The VI Empires-The Legend Begins”.
SHS Academic Club hope that each SHS Freshmen will embark in a journey with a new beginning in NYP.
The event was a memorable not only for the freshmen, but for us too.

School of Health Sciences Student Conference 2009, an annual showcase of Final Year Project competition was held on the 20th March 2009. Guests from the industries were invited to see what our students have had to offer.

This year's Student Conference revolves around the theme of
HEALTHCARE APPRENTICE, Preserving the Legacy
In hope that each student is able to uphold the legacy of innovation and creativity.

Hey there students!

On the 6 August 2008, we had our Nurses’ Day cum National Day celebration.

There was a sea of red and white that filled the garden in front of the LTK.
Many thanks for those who had turned up and we hope that you have enjoyed the event as much as we did enjoy preparing for it.

We had a number of performances by both students as well as lectures.

In addition, we had the recycling competition which enables the students to have the opportunity to portray their creativity.

Hope you all had some fun, either by having ur hands henna-painted, eating the traditional kuehs or even hand-printing the banner for the upcoming National Day! =)

For those who turned up in your traditional costumes, you guys ROCK! It's not everyday we turn up in school with our racial costumes, right? ;)

Superheroes MInd League!

Hello, SHS students!

Finally, the champions of the SHS Debates Challenge 2008 has been crowned!

For this year, we chose the theme "Superheroes Mind League" as we believe all of us are heroes of our own. =)

Team that made it to the semi-finals were: (from clockwise)

1) Teen Titans

2) X-Men

3) Justice League

4) The Incredibles

It was an indeed tight competition between the 4 teams. They gave their best, and tried to outwit their opponents. But in the end, there's got to be only ONE winner.

Teen Titans & The Incredibles successfully moved on to the Finals, given the motion:

"This house would ban music that glorifies serious crimes."

It was a very much debatable topic that resulted in various rebuttals and captured the audience's attention well.

... Finally, The Incredibles emerged as WINNER! Congratulations! =)

Runner-up!

A BIG thank you to the judges for their time and expertise, and to the directors for gracing this occasion.

Captain's Ball Tournament

Feel the Adrenaline... Conquer the Arena!

SHS Club organised the Captain's Ball Tournament yesterday, 26th April 2008.
14 teams had to sweat it out for the $70 Swensens voucher and the gold medals.
Thank you for the enthusiastic participation despite the scorching-hot weather!
We hope you all have enjoyed the friendly matches and made some new friends from it.

And of course, Congratulations to the 3 teams that emerged as winners in the tournament! :)

Meals on Wheels

NYP CSC is working with TOUCH Community Services for their Meals On Wheels Programme!

The tentative starting date is on the 29th October. It is a meal delivery programme which helps to meet daily needs of homebound elderly living alone. These elderly depend on volunteers to deliver meals to them everyday.

Volunteers will be divided into pairs. Each pair is to work together to deliver 10 food packets to elderly staying in Toa Payoh estate. Time of delivery will be from 4pm to 6.30pm.Volunteers who are interested in this programme, please take note that you are required to commit for 2 weeks (3 hours on every sat or sun of the week).

1 CCA point will be awarded to participants. Those interested, kindly please reply to nyp.csc@gmail.com with your particulars (name, admin no., hp, email, school).

For safety reasons, each pair is to be made up of a male and a female. So grab your friend now and sign up as a pair!

Inter-School Sports Meet

The inter-school Sports Meet is an event organised by NYP Sports Club, spear headed by Mr Guru(SA Office Officer) in the attempt to bring sportsmen from all over NYP in the objective to select people as representatives for NYP in the upcoming INTER-VARSITY-POLYTECHNIC Track meet in September.

Have you represented your former schools in any track and field events? Represented your class? Would you like to represent SHS and take part in this event? If you were an athlete, or used to be school runners, even national runners, we welcome you! Alternatively, if you would like to try-out doing an event in this track meet, you are welcome too!

Note:
Participants will be awarded CCA points for representing SHS.
Each participant cannot take part in more than 3 events.
Current NYP Track team members are allowed to join, but again, not more than 3 events.
Particpants w/o prior training but want to try, can approach the track team or Mr Guru(6550 1907 / 98318993) on Mon/Wed/Fri in Sports Complex (The end of tracks near tennis courts) foradvice and coaching.
For each event, it is STRONGLY encouraged to have 2-3 participants to represent SHS.

Cultural Tour

Hi guys,

Student Union is organising a Cultural Tour for all 80 clubs in NYP including Student Union.

Date: 22 July 2006.

Time : 10am to about 2pm.

I would like around 40 Student Union members to join us in this tour. It will cost ard $4 per person. We will be visiting places such as Kampong Glam , Little India and Chinatown. Do take note that lunch will not be provided. Sorry.

It would be great pleasure if you can get back to me by Mon , 10 July 06 if you're interested. As I need to hand in the list of names to Mr Wee by Tuesday , 11 July 2006.

You are invited to a Beach Volleyball Exhibition Match conducted by World Class players!

There will be an exhibition match between world class players and you will have the opportunity to see the world's best beach volleyball players in action.

Venue : Sentosa Siloso Beach

Day / Date : Sat 20 May and Sun 21 May 06

Time : 3 - 7pm on both days

Registration fee : FREE

This event is organised by the NYAA Council, the Embassy of Switzerland and the Volleyball Association of Singapore as part of the "Icons in Red and White", a Swiss-Singaporean Celebration from 14 - 28 May 06, the biggest ever bilateral event which offers activites across many areas. A key event of "Icons in Red and White" is a world-class Beach Volleyball event to be held at Sentosa Siloso Beach. Two male and two female World Class Teams from Switzerland and Germany will be stopping over in Singapore for the event a week before the start of the annual World Tour to be held in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Who are the players ?

- The Swiss Male Team comprises Heyer Sascha and Laciga Paul, currently ranked number 7 in the world and Vice World Champions in 2005.

- The Swiss Female Team are Simone Kuhn and Lea Schwer, currently ranked number 10 in the world.

- The German Female Team are Susanne Lahme and Geeske Banck, currently ranked number 18 in the world.

- The Swiss Male Teams are, Jan Schnider and Marcel Gscheidle currently ranked number 32 in the world and David Wenger and Phil Gabathuler, currently ranked number 74 in the world.

- Two other players Laciga Paul and Susanne Lahme, who both competed in the Athens Olympics and are currently ranked number 5 and 9 in the world respectively

Do not miss this opportunity to interact with the world class Beach Volleyball players during their visit to Singapore.

Here are the updates on the upcoming events in School Of Health Sciences.

1. Soccer Tourney ( 27th May 2006, Sat)
This is an intra-school soccer tournament which be held at the Stadium. A maximum of 16 teams comprising of 5 girls and 2 guys (compulsory) minimum per team. Please look out for more info at SHS Blog and/or Notice Board. For more information, please contact us at shsmc05-06@yahoogroups.com .

2. Student Conference (20th May 2006, Sat)
This is an invitation-only event. For more information, please contact us at shsmc05-06@yahoogroups.com .

3. Nurses' Day cum National Day Celebration 2006 (August 2006)
A day full of performances and celebration in commemoration of Nurses around the world along side with the excitement of National Day. Please contact us if you would like to perform (Song, Band, Dance, etc.) during this day. If we are pleased with your performance, you may be cordially invited to perform during our Dinner & Dance (SHS Rewind) in September. 4. Dinner & Dance (SHS Rewind - September 2006)
This grand dance party will be our very first in SHS. Open to all SHS students. Our theme would be 'Retro - 70's'. Look out for more details soon! For more information, please contact us at shsmc05-06@yahoogroups.com .

Wondering what to do after class??

Dont hesitate to drop by the Sports Hall(BLK G) during the second and third day of school (18/4 & 19/4) for the annual CCA carnival - Club Crawl 2006, organised by Nanyang Polytechnic Students' Union.

Up to 80 CCA clubs will be participating this year, with performance on stage and ongoing activites in the middle of the hall!

Exciting prizes to be won when you vote for your favourite CCA.

And of course, you can sign up for the CCAs you are interested in on the spot. With up to 80 different CCAs to choose from!!

SHS Club Community Outreach Event

Nanyang Polytechnic School of Health Sciences Club will be organising a community outreach event with Tanglin School, an institution catering to youths with special needs. The Club wishes to spread the cheer of the festive season, as well as to engage the youths in fun activities during their school holidays.

Event: An Evening of Fun and Magic

Day/Date: Friday, 25th November 2005

Time: 5.00pm to 7.00pm

Venue: Nanyang Polytechnic, Block E

Volunteers needed to help us run and manage the students during the games and interactive sessions. Please do publicise this to your friends. We do hope to get a good mix of students from the various departments at this event.

Do respond to Md Nizar, President of SHS Club directly to state your interest in helping out at this event.
